Psalm 106 and 107 remind us to give thanks to the Lord, for He is good and His mercy endures forever. As God’s people, we often say these words, but today let’s pause and truly consider what we mean when we ask God for mercy.
Mercy is more than forgiveness. It is God’s compassionate, steadfast love, withholding the punishment we deserve and offering grace instead. Every morning we wake up to new mercies, fresh expressions of His faithfulness toward us.
One of the clearest pictures of mercy is the story of the prodigal son. A father who watched, waited, hoped, and welcomed his child home with open arms. That is God’s heart toward us. No matter how far we wander, He recognizes us, embraces us, restores us, and calls us His own.
